26 May 2026, Hazaribagh, Jharkhand: Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra (NBJK) has started a dedicated Cornea Department at LokNayak JayPrakash Eye Hospital, Bahera (Ashram), Chouparan, Hazaribagh, marking an important step towards strengthening specialized eye care services in the region.
From 25 May 2026, Dr. (Ms.) Saba Iqbal, a Cornea Specialist from Ranchi, has started providing services at the hospital. On the very first day, she examined 15 patients, out of which 3 patients were identified for surgery.
The establishment of the Cornea Department will greatly benefit patients who previously had to travel to metropolitan cities for advanced corneal treatment. At present, the hospital is providing cornea-related examinations free of cost.
Speaking on the occasion, Program Director Mr. Gandharv Gaurav informed that preparations are underway to start Cornea Transplant facilities at the hospital in the near future. Necessary resources are being arranged, and a proposal seeking government approval for the establishment of a Cornea Transplant Centre has already been submitted.
Once approval is received, patients from Hazaribagh, Chatra, Ramgarh, Koderma, Gaya, Nawada, and Aurangabad districts will be able to access advanced cornea treatment and transplant services closer to their homes, reducing both travel and treatment burden.
The hospital is also actively organizing eye health awareness and screening camps across these districts to spread awareness about prevention and treatment of various eye diseases.
LokNayak JayaPrakash Eye Hospital, operated by Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra, continues to work towards providing accessible, affordable, and quality eye care services for rural and underserved communities.
