My name is Jitni Devi, husband-Dukhan Gope, village-Barmasia, block-Giridih, District-Giridih (Jarkhand). I am 73 years old and have four adult married sons. Since I belong to a farmer’s family, still I use to do a lot of household works along with agriculture, animal husbandry, milk vending and taking care of grandchildren etc.
For last two years, I was suffering from eye problems. My vision started diminishing and affected my daily routine. Sometimes it became embarrassing for me as I couldn’t recognize close relatives even. My family members restricted me to go outside for safety point of view and there was no way to avoid such instructions.
During February 2022, when an eye screening camp was announced and organized by Vimla Ramakrishna Bajaj Eye Hospital-Sightsavers near my place, I went there for eye checkup. After diagnosis, a cataract has been identified in my right eye which caused my all problems related to low or hazy vision.
The camp people took me to the base hospital at Devghar and removed that cataract through a surgery. After the operation, I followed all the medical instructions and recovered shortly.
After cataract surgery, I have gained a clear eye sight and gradually came back to my old routine. After years, I can see undoubtedly now and started all the works I left earlier because of eye problem. This is a big transformation in my life.
Now I look after my cows properly and sell milk also. As an average my daily sale is about Rs. 600-800 and I feel happy when contribute to my family income. That cataract surgery by VRBEH-Sightsavers has offered me a chance to live independently and not to sit idle. I am very much obliged to these organizations and their helpful people, may God bless them!
